CDC Guidelines for Transportation in the Current COVID-19 environment.

June 9, 2020 by VMCMarketing

CDC Activities and Initiatives Supporting the
COVID-19 Response and the President’s Plan
for Opening America Up Again

Starting on page 45 of the above article it specifically talks about the guidelines that have been set forth in regard to capacity and health and safety in relation to school bus transportation.

According to the guidelines set forth, and in regard to Pre-K and Ei Children with special needs programs the capacities on vehicles with monitors would be as follows:

SOCIAL DISTANCING

Current CDC guidelines are stating social distancing with students on the bus means one child per seat every other seat.

This definition is further defined with these examples

A 30 passenger capacity bus would only accommodate 5 students and a monitor.  (any route that contained this type of vehicle would need to be potentially split into 3 vehicles)

A 20 passenger vehicle would also accommodate 5 students and a monitor depending on the additional back seat on the bus. (any route that contained this type of vehicle would need to be potentially split into 2 vehicles)

A 6 passenger minivan would only allow 1 student and a monitor. (any route that contains this type of vehicle could potentially be split into 5 other vehicles)

It is recommended that children over the age of 2 wear face coverings.  Based on our sensitive population in the Children with Special needs PreK and EI programs the likelihood of maintaining these protocols is difficult at best, therefore the social distancing guidelines will come into play.

This post will be updated as information becomes available and if guidelines are adjusted as the situation unfolds.
